Get Your Feet Wet

splash of water

“Oh, men and women, pray through; pray through! Do not just
begin to pray and pray a little while and throw up your hands
and quit; but pray and pray and pray until God bends the
heavens and comes down.”

R.A. Torrey

You can’t build a permanent dwelling where a tent is supposed to be. That was the confession of my heart as we drove the stake into the ground. I was ready for that permanent dwelling, but not just anywhere would do.

God would work out the details as we stepped out in faith. Although very much available and willing to follow the Lord’s leading, Chuck needed hard facts. I, however, was ready to jump with both feet, and I hoped faith would catch me. Thankfully, Chuck reminded me of a gift called wisdom that God had given to help us navigate before we jumped. Yet, God still requires faith.

If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.

There is a story tucked away in the book of Joshua that has such power. God tells Joshua to inform the priests to step into the Jordan with the Ark of the Lord. When they do, He will separate the waters, and the people will walk across on dry land (Joshua 3:13). Moses had only to stretch out his rod, but the directions were slightly different with Joshua. God does not always perform miracles the same way. Sometimes, we have to get our feet wet to see the miracle.

No angelic choir sang when we put the for-sale sign in the yard (although I was looking for them), and our forever place did not appear the next day. In fact, I felt pretty silly boxing up a house with absolutely no direction as to where we were going. Yet, God was smiling.

I love sharing snippets of my life in story form. In a world entirely of a one-click agenda, and stressors mounting it is essential to know that life can be slower and more peaceful. Excitement for the day can be found on the front porch with a cup of coffee watching the new cement being poured. We can have moments while washing the dishes that change our lives.

Spiritual strength can overcome physical limitations.

Taking one step will lead to the next one. You won’t see all the pieces at once. That’s what faith is all about. God moves when we move.

The roadblocks seemed endless, and to the onlooker, we looked crazy. Why would God want to answer what I had written down on paper? My mother says it’s because He is looking for someone to be good to. I believe her.

A few weeks ago, a lady we attend church with stopped by to help me with the kids while Chuck was away. Excited, she said, “I knew I recognized your address! I have been here before! I attended a conference with the lady who lived here at the time. She told me they were putting the house up for sale and moving back to Florida. I am so happy such a beautiful family lives here.”

Their conversation occurred around the same time we hammered a for-sale sign into the ground. I wonder if God had anything to do with that as we jumped into the water with both feet.

Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.

Hebrews 6:19

I have a friend who would see the sun rays splitting through the clouds and while her kids were young she would tell them, “Look children, God is bending the heavens to help someone today”

What is it you are believing God for? Make God smile and get your feet wet. He’ll bend the heavens to come down.

He bowed the heavens and came down with darkness under his feet.
